A second-half Adam Murray strike gave Oxford United their fifth consecutive win in the Blue Square Premier, at promotion-chasing Crawley.
Craig Nelthorpe had the best chance for the U's in the first half but his 25-yard shot was saved by Simon Rayner.
Simon Weatherstone went close for Crawley in the 53rd-minute and Robbie Matthews headed straight at Billy Turley two minutes later.
Murray's winner came on 61 minutes, as he fired home from six yards.
