Orient rumour concerns Hawks boss

Non-league football

Harlow Town chairman Simon Morgan says he is concerned by press reports suggesting that Leyton Orient could relocate there.

Orient will not comment but Harlow Council say they would welcome the move as long as The Hawks are unaffected.

But the Ryman Premier Division outfit's chairman told BBC Essex it would put his club in 'great jeopardy'.

"It is naive to think if any professional club came to the town it wouldn't seriously affect us," he said.

"It could and it would probably finish us if anything.

"We would not welcome this at all and have been in communication with the councillors and local MPs to show our disgust that a move would even be considered," he added.

Orient were linked with a move to the Olympic Stadium after the 2012 games in London but the possibility appears to have faded in recent months.

Morgan also suggested the town was not a suitable place for the League One club, as he did not believe there was strong O's fan base in the area.

"They've obviously got an element of a fan base as a lot of people from East London have moved from Harlow, Epping and other surrounding areas.

"But the town is mainly a Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham town."
