Carl Rogers returned to the first team against Cambridge earlier this month
AFC Telford United boss Rob Smith believes Carl Rogers has what it takes to be the best midfielder in the league when he is fit and playing well.
Rogers has been kept on the bench by Jamie Vermiglio since August.
But Vermiglio's absence with a groin strain has allowed Rogers to start three of Telford's last four games.
"There's no better midfielder in the league when he's playing like he is," Smith told BBC Shropshire: "He has a lot of ability. He is the engine room."
With Vermiglio not expected to make his comeback until next weekend's return to league action at Hucknall, Rogers has another chance to impress in the FA Trophy this Saturday.
Telford, who travel to Gainsborough Trinity (1500 GMT), look set to welcome back Jimmy Turner.
The Bucks defender, who developed complications following a summer knee operation, has been out getting match fitness with Bromsgrove Rovers.
Smith hinted that he may need to look at bringing in a fresh face if they pick up any more injuries over the weekend.
