Forest Green ended their 12-game winless run, edging past fellow strugglers Mansfield at The New Lawn.

Alex Lawless grabbed the winner with a fierce long-range strike after great work by Jonathan Smith.

The Stags had their chances with Nathan Arnold forcing a fine save from home keeper Terry Burton.

But their best opportunity to secure a point came from the spot when Darren Jones fouled Emile Sinclair but Burton saved Adnan Ahmed's penalty.
