Rowan has scored eight goals for Boston this season
Boston United eased to a convincing 6-0 win over Kidsgrove Athletic in the FA Trophy first qualifying round.
Stewart Talbot and Jon Rowan both scored twice at York Street, with Adam Millson and Ollie Ryan also on target.
Kidsgrove manager Peter Ward had been critical of the Pilgrims in a newspaper article, a copy of which Rowan threw at the away bench after his second goal.
He told BBC Radio Lincolnshire: "That was the worst thing they could have done, it gave us a massive incentive."
Boston manager Tommy Taylor said: "I put it up on the wall and let the boys read it a few times, but I didn't realise they'd brought it out with them to throw to him once they'd scored a few.
"I don't think he knew what it was at first, until he picked it up and read it."
Rowan added: "I saw a nice little celebration moment, maybe it was a bit over the top but I think managers should keep quiet until after the game."
Boston will now visit Unibond First Division North side Clitheroe in the second qualifying round.
Goals from Ross Watson, Tyrone Kirk and Dan Cotton helped Stamford to a 3-0 victory over Kendal Town, earning the Daniels a home tie against Hednesford Town.
Spalding United face a replay after a 0-0 draw at home to North Ferriby United, with the winner travelling to either Colwyn Bay or Chasetown, while Lincoln United were knocked out of the competition following a 2-1 defeat at Ashton United, with the Whites' goal coming from Ian Wilkins.
In the Unibond First Division South Phil Starbuck made a winning start as Grantham Town manager, with the Gingerbreads beating Willenhall town 4-2 to end a run of nine games without a victory.
Danny Brooks netted two penalties with fellow debutant Danny Hargreaves also on target, while Ben Garrick scored his first goal for the club.
