Boston United supporters have donated around �7,000 to help the club meet their final administration payments.

United ended their Company Voluntary Arrangement in May but have two more instalments of �25,000 to pay, the first of which is due this month.

They set up a website to allow people to make donations to the club.

Chairman David Newton told BBC Radio Lincolnshire: "It reinforces the feeling we're doing the right thing, and that the club was worth saving."

But Newton admitted that the board of directors had had reservations about asking the fans to help with the Pilgrims' financial situation through the Support the Pilgrims website.

He said: "I'm not comfortable doing it, we'd much rather have sorted it ourselves but everyone knows the present climate we're operating in.

"Everyone's being squeezed and it was a big ask but people are responding, they're realising that we're it for the right reasons."
