Cambridge edged out Weymouth in a tense battle thanks to a dazzling goal from Jon Challinor at the Abbey Stadium.

In a rare moment of quality the Us midfielder drilled a low right-footed shot into the corner from 25 yards.

Mark Beesley had a couple of excellent chances to extend their lead but the visitors' defence held firm.

Weymouth were restricted to long-range shots, and their day ended badly with striker Lee McEvilly seeing red for violent conduct late on.
