Paul Brown rescued a hard-fought point for Barrow with a late equaliser as Rushden suffered an injury-time lapse.
Rushden had to re-shuffle early on when striker Lee Phillips was knocked unconscious after a clash of heads with Barrow keeper Tim Deasy.
Yet Leon Knight struck in the 16th minute strike after he converted a Sam Smith shot which was spilled.
But, in the 91st minute, Brown finished from 10 yards out after Carlos Logan managed to keep the ball alive.
Barrow joint-manager Dave Bayliss told BBC Radio Cumbria:
"These players have to start growing up, defensively it was Sunday League stuff at times, these mistakes are happening week-in, week-out, it's really frustrating.
"Psychologically it was great to score at the end but there were no high-fives in the dressing room from us afterwards.
"It's frustrating because experienced lads are at times running around like headless chickens, they have to start using their heads not just their hearts.
"They've got a season to work on that but if they are not good enough then they will have to go, it's our jobs that are on the line, they have to prove to us that they want to play."
