Knitters continue summer building

Non-League

Hinckley United manager Dean Thomas still hopes to add to his squad ahead of the new Blue Square North season.

Thomas has already signed five players this summer, including goalkeeper Chris McKenzie, defender Connor Franklin and midfielder George Clegg.

And the Knitters have taken more players on trial as Thomas looks to avoid another season of struggle.

He told BBC Radio Leicester: "I'm looking at three others, including striker Matt Moore from Oadby."

Thomas, who was keen to bring in a new keeper, was delighted to sign McKenzie from Kidderminster.

"It's important that we get some experience in the squad as we've got a young side," Thomas explained.

"Now Chris has left full-time football and got another job he wanted to carry on part-time and that's great for us."

The Hinckley boss has also brought in two defenders from Nuneaton including Franklin, who was released by Leicester City 12 months ago.

Midfielder Clegg has been signed from Worcester City, while left winger Lee Chiltern was picked up from Kettering.

Hinckley's first pre-season match is against Leicester City at the Marston's Stadium next Saturday (12 July).
