Justin Whittle was released by Grimsby at the end of last season
Harrogate Town have signed former Grimsby captain Justin Whittle.
The 37-year old centre-half will be a replacement for Mark Hume, who has left Wetherby Road to join Buxton.
The Blue Square North club's general manager Alan Williams said: "The competition from opposition clubs attempting to sign Justin has been fierce.
"His experience and pedigree is going to be a massive advantage for us in the push for the championship."
We need to sign a goalkeeper as priority. Once we do, I'll start looking at the season in a more confident fashion
Harrogate Town manager Neil Aspin
Meanwhile manager Neil Aspin told BBC Radio York that putting his side together has not been easy.
"Since I've been manager - this is my fourth season - it's definitely been the most difficult. I haven't really enjoyed the summer because of all the problems.
"There's been things that have happened out of my control regarding a couple of players who I always thought would be at Harrogate [but] who are not going to be there next season, and that has obviously been a blow.
"But you've just got to get on with it. We need to sign a goalkeeper as priority. Once we do, I'll start looking at the season in a more confident fashion."
