Newly-promoted King's Lynn have lost their captain Mark Warren after he turned down a new contract.

The defender claims he was offered reduced terms, despite the Linnets' promotion to Conference level football for the first time in their history.

Warren, 33, told BBC Radio Norfolk: "I would have stayed at the club if a realistic offer was on the table."

The former Leyton Orient player was made club captain at The Walks after being signed by Tommy Taylor in 2006.

But he missed the final six weeks of the season through injury as Lynn were crowned Southern League Champions.

Lynn are due to play in Blue Square North next season and Warren revealed that the amount of travelling involved also contributed to his decision.

Warren said: "I wasn't being greedy. The club offered me a contract and I felt it wasn't right for me or my family."

The Linnets have already moved to increase their defensive cover by signing Simon Weaver after he turned down a new deal at Boston United.
