Farrell Kilbane is the brother of Republic of Ireland international Kevin Kilbane

Northern Premier champions Fleetwood Town have completed the signing of defender Farrell Kilbane.

The 33-year-old centre-half has joined from Blue Square North side Burscough, where he was voted Player of the Season in 2006/07.

"I have known Farrell since his Preston apprentice days," said Fleetwood boss Tony Greenwood.

"His Blue Square North experience will be invaluable as we look to establish ourselves in a new division."

After leaving Preston, Kilbane went on to play for Cambridge United, Stafford Rangers and then Lancaster City before joining Southport, whom he helped to win the Conference North title in 2004/05.

Kilbane's arrival follows the capture of the former Skelmersdale United midfielder Kevin Leadbetter.

"There are a few more targets in addition to the two signings made so far," added Greenwood.
