Goals in either half from Ryan Hall and Jamie Cook were enough to give Crawley a shock 2-1 win at Torquay.
Crawley started well and Hall saw a long-range effort tipped over before he fired his side ahead with a terrific volley from the edge of the box.
Chris Zebroski, Danny Stevens and Chris Todd all wasted opportunities to draw the Gulls level but Cook's fine 18-yard shot doubled the home side's lead.
Tim Sills headed in Stevens' cross to make it 2-1 but the visitors held on.
Crawley manager Steve Evans told BBC Southern Counties Radio:
"We demanded a reaction [to the midweek defeat] and we got it. Against Halifax as much as we were poor, we should have been 4-0 up at one stage but we didn't take our chances.
"We didn't take all our opportunities today but we've won the game, and I think everyone in the ground knows that we should have won by five or six goals here.
"Their goalkeeper was man of the match and at times we cut them apart."
