Kirkham target successful future

Dai Davis
Davis hopes Kirkham will take 10,000 fans to Wembley

Kirkham & Wesham chairman Dai Davis believes the club will benefit long-term from receiving 150,000 for reaching this season's FA Vase Final.

Last weekend's win over Needham Market secured Kirkham's place at Wembley on 11 May, and Davis feels the foundations are set for further success.

"It's phenomenal for a club of our size," he told BBC Radio Lancashire.

"It'd normally take us 10 years to earn that sort of money, so it'll now safeguard our future."

We're looking to be in the Unibond League within the next two years

Kirkham are currently third in Vodkat League Division Two, and Davis revealed their ambitions to extend beyond step six of the non-league pyramid.

"We've set our stall out to move up the football ladder.

"We're looking to be in the Unibond League within the next two years. If we can do that with the revenue that we've generated with the cup run, then the money will have helped us achieve our short-term ambitions."
