Droylsden 2-2 Aldershot

Rock-bottom Droylsden came close to upsetting runaway leaders Aldershot.

Droylsden were in front after 17 minutes as goalkeeper Paul Phillips' long punt upfield found Terry Fearns who slotted home from close in.

On 57 minutes Junior Mendes drilled in the equaliser, only for Fearns to score his second of the game soon after.

Aldershot's Scott Davies was then sent off and five minutes later Droylsden's Steve Daly was also dismissed, before Lee Roche's own goal levelled it.

Aldershot manager Gary Waddock told BBC Southern Counties: "We wanted a response form the players after Thursday evening and we got it.

"We've had a busy week and come out of it with 10 points from 12, with three of the games away from home and the players have done extremely well.

"I'm pleased for Rob Elvins that he got the first goal. It was a quality finish and he worked extremely hard for the team and could have gone home with a hat-trick."

  • Aldershot manager Gary Waddock told BBC Southern Counties radio:
"They were told before the game how Droylsden would play and they couldn't cope with it.

"All said and done we didn't play well, but it's one hell of a point away from home."
