Midfielder Jon Adams scored his fourth goal of the season as AFC Telford United's 1-0 win at Alfreton closed the gap on league leaders Kettering. But Telford only hung on to all three points thanks to a late, match-winning save from keeper Ryan Young.
"It was a fantastic team performance," said Telford boss Rob Smith.
"We're enjoying this and I don't think Kettering are, that's the difference. They're in the box seat but we've got no pressure on us."
The win keeps Telford in second place in the Blue Square North, having halved the gap to just three points behind leaders Kettering, who lost 1-0 to Burscough.
Kettering still have a game in hand, as well as having home advantage when the two teams meet for what could prove the title decider at Rockingham Road on 5 April.
But Telford now have a nine-point cushion protecting them from the teams chasing the play-off pack. And Smith pointed out: "Whatever we achieve it's been a great year."
