Scott Rendell's last-gasp winner helped haul Cambridge into the play-off pack and sink fellow high-flyers Stevenage. Courtney Pitt opened the scoring for the hosts when he pounced on Ben Farrell's cross to net with a low shot.
Stevenage levelled 13 minutes from time when Luke Oliver rose well to head home Sammy Moore's corner from six yards.
But Rendell popped up in the very last minute to head Robert Wolleaston's right-sided cross past Stevenage keeper Alan Julian to seal victory.
