Dryden determined to keep Smith
Chris Smith
AFC Telford's bid for Chris Smith has been rejected
Worcester City boss Richard Dryden has outlined his determination to hang onto captain Chris Smith following this week's approach from Telford United.

"I think he's a bit shocked they came in for him," said Dryden. "But I'm not shocked because when he has played he's been an outstanding centre half.

"I think he's the best centre half I've seen in the league so far."

Telford made a 1,500 bid, plus a small additional payment if they are promoted this season, but it was rejected.

"The offer is way below our valuation of Chris, who is rated by many people as one of the best central defenders in the league," said Worcester chairman Dave Boddy.

"Richard Dryden is trying to build a side and Chris is very much a part of his plans."

Telford chairman Lee Carter said: "We have made what we believe to be a very sensible and realistic offer bearing in mind what we perceive to be the current state of the transfer market at this level of football."
