Mark Albrighton's second goal of the season helped Cambridge see off Histon. The defender connected with Stephen Reed's left-wing cross and fired into the top corner from 12 yards to settle a tense derby encounter.
Visiting defender Matthew Langston earlier headed narrowly wide, while Cambridge's Mark Peters and Lee Boylan went close before the half-time break.
Histon were desperately unlucky not to score an equaliser in the 68th minute when striker Daniel Wright hit the bar.
