Substitute Scott Rendell's late winner saw Cambridge continue their march up the Blue Square Premier Division table with victory over Rushden & Diamonds. In a game of few chances, the visitors looked the more likely to score.
The visitors' best opening saw U's goalkeeper Danny Potter sprawling across his goal to keep out Simon Rusk's spectacular 30-yard strike.
But it was Rendell who had the decisive say and he stole in to head home Daniel Gleeson's cross 10 minutes from time.
