Dave Winfield's late header preserved Aldershot's unbeaten away record. Winfield rose to convert Joe Grant's cross with three minutes left when Cambridge looked set for victory after Scott Rendell's finish from six yards.
Rendell was denied a second by Shots keeper Nikki Bull, Leo Fortune-West headed on to the crossbar and Bull tipped away a Courtney Pitt effort.
The Shots salvaged their point before Us substitute Marvin Robinson was sent off for two bookings in two minutes.
