Halifax looked to be cruising into the Conference play-off final after three first-half goals but were pegged back by a double from Dennis Oli. Steve Bushell opened the scoring in the 17th minute with a free-kick.
Matthew Doughty then crossed for Ryan Sugden to head in for the second. Lewis Killeen then swept home from 12 yards.
Grays then mounted a comeback with two goals from Oli. His first was a header and his second a shot from inside the penalty area.
