Prolific striker Andy Payton has signed for ambitious UniBond League side Stalybridge Celtic following his departure from Burnley. The former Celtic and Middlesbrough marksman has joined the Premier Division club, managed by former Burnley player Dave Miller, on non-contract terms.
The 35-year-old, who has also scored goals for Hull, Barnsley and Huddersfield Town, will spearhead the Celtic attack alongside ex-Clarets team-mate Phil Eastwood.
"I've known David for a long time and he called me saying he had an interesting proposal," said Payton.
"I went down to Stalybridge to have a look around the ground and was impressed with everything I saw and heard.
"At the end of the day, they are a part-time side and signing for them offers me the chance to keep fit and do what I do best - score goals.
"I have agreed non-contract terms and now I'm really looking forward to enjoying playing some football again next season," Payton told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph.
