Cameroon international Bill Tchato has signed for struggling German club Kaiserslautern in a deal worth $1.6m.

Tchato joins the club, who are second from bottom of the Bundesliga - with just 13 points from 17 games - from French side Montpellier.

The 27-year-old signed a two and a half-year contract that will keep him at the Fritz-Walter-Stadion until 2005.

Tchato, who has 26 caps for Cameroon, joined Montpellier in 2000 from Nice.

He was set to join his new teammates on Friday, at their Turkish winter training camp at Belek.
