European sports pages continue to be dominated over the last days by the 'Mercato' - the transfer window for leagues which is again open for the month of January.

Speculation over the possible move for many of the leading international players fills the pages of the all the major sports newspapers.

But to date there have been few major sales involving African players.

Shabani Nonda, the DR Congo captain, and Senegal's World Cup star Khalilou Fadiga both feature prominently as players who might be transferred in the next days.

Nonda, according to the French press, is being chased by both Bayern Munich and Italian champions Juventus.

Meanwhile Fadiga is being sought by Inter Milan and a host of English clubs.

But while the speculation continues, there have been just 11 confirmed moves in the last week for African footballers to clubs in Europe or between clubs in Europe.

English clubs have bought three players - Ibrahim Said of Egypt to Everton, Djamel Belmadi joining two Algerian compatriots at Manchester City and first division leaders Portsmouth signing Yakubu Aiyegbeni, the Nigerian striker.

Pablo Thiam's unhappy spell at Bayern Munich has ended with a move to VfL Wolfsburg in the German Bundesliga while injury prone Eric Addo seeks to resurrect his career at Roda JC in the Netherlands after failing to make any impact at PSV Eindhoven.
