Mido's Ajax lifeline
Koeman and Mido appear to have developed greater understanding

Egyptian striker Ahmed Hossam Mido could stay at Dutch club Ajax after resolving a row with his coach.

I've learned that he carries a lot of pride inside him
Ronald Koeman on Mido
Coach Ronald Koeman replaced Mido after just 32 minutes of a league game against Gronigen in October.

The decision led to a heated clash between coach and player - with Mido subsequently making his anger public in a series of heated statements.

The talented Egyptian said he would leave the Dutch club when the European transfer window reopens in January - and was fined and dropped following his outburst.

But the striker scored twice in last week's 6-0 victory over NEC - and coach Koeman has spoken of a need for greater understanding.

"I've learned that he carries a lot of pride inside him," said Koeman.

"In Egypt he is treated like a god, people in his homeland do not expect to see him on the bench.

"He was the top goal scorer last season and they must expect him to be a starter, I can understand that.

"It would have been better to replace him during half-time."

Koeman is well known for his tough personality and his stubbornness in dealing with young players - so his remarks are a strong hint at reconciliation between coach and player.

The striker himself had already apologised for his initial outburst.

Mido is the top scorer for Ajax this season with seven goals and the young Pharaoh has been watched by several Italian and English clubs.
