Kpaka rages against newspaper slur
Paul Kpaka
Kpaka is unhappy with the papers
Sierra Leone's new star Paul Kpaka is angry and flabbergasted over Belgian press reports that describe him as a "difficult youngster".

Kpaka, 21, is denying reports in the 'Gazet van Antwerpen' that he turned down a 100% salary increase from his Belgian club Germinal Beerschot and demanded a transfer.

Kpaka, who was sent off on his international debut against Gabon in an African Nations Cup qualifier earlier this month, describes the whole report as a "misunderstanding".

"It all stems from a management decision that no one told me about.

"I've been quietly getting on with my football," he said in the Belgian press this week.

There is an image that I am a difficult person, but that's not true

"Of course I was upset over the row that was started up but the whole commotion has not been worthwhile.

"I strive for stability in my sport and my life and I've always had a good relationship with the Beerschot chairman and manager.

"Now there is an image that I am a difficult person, but that's not true," he added.

"I'm a relaxed guy who always thinks about what he says. The coach understands my situation and he supports me and knows that I'm a straight guy."

Kpaka says he has no idea where reporters got the figure of 7-million Euros he was supposed to be demanding for his transfer from Beerschot.

"It's an unrealistic price. There is a crisis in world soccer, is there not?," he quipped.

Kpaka will miss Sierra Leone's next Nations Cup qualifier against Morocco as a result of the red card he received against Gabon.
