Gyan has only played as a substitute since arriving at Sunderland

Ghana legend Tony Yeboah has backed his compatriot Asamoah Gyan to be a hit in the English Premier League.

Gyan is in line for his first start in a Sunderland shirt this weekend following his record US$20 million move from Stade Rennes.

Yeboah believes the 25-year-old could become the toast of the league despite only coming on as a substitute so far.

"Gyan has all the qualities and now he he needs to work on his concentration," Yeboah told BBC Sport.

Sunderland manager Steve Bruce reckons it's time to 'unleash' the Ghanaian striker and 'see what he has got'.

Yeboah who had two brilliant seasons at Leeds United in the mid-90s is in no doubt English fans will like what they see but also agrees Gyan has a lot of work to do.

"I am not happy he scored in the first game," Yeboah said.

"If he doesn't continue scoring then there will be complaints," he added.

Yeboah also insists Gyan should be wary of distractions, especially his occasional forays into music.

"There is the music and all but he has to put it aside and concentrate on the football.

"The Premier League is a tough league and Asamoah must work hard to impress," Yeboah continued.

Yeboah who also played for Eintracht Frankfurt in the German Bundesliga, believes that apart from Gyan, Ghana is struggling for top level strikers.

"Gyan is doing well, but we lack strikers like Didier Drogba and Samuel Eto'o,"he stated.

Yeboah is now keen to use his vast experience to help in unearthing the next generation of Ghana striking greats at the club he owns, Yegoala FC.
