Equatorial Guinea and Cameroon shared the points

Defending champions Equatorial Guinea drew 2-2 with Cameroon in their opening match at the African women's championship on Tuesday.

A second-minute strike from Jade Boho Sayo put the holders in front in this Group B encounter in Johannesburg.

The goal stung Cameroon into action but the Indomitable Lionesses returned from their numerous attacks empty handed.

They conceded a second goal on the half hour when striker De Santana Barbosa found the target from close range.

Despite being two goals down, the Cameroonians refused to throw in the towel and got their reward on the stroke of half-time when a well-taken free kick by Manie Patience beat Equatorial Guinea goalkeeper Yao Haoua at full stretch.

Cameroon went for broke immediately after the break and got the equaliser through Ngono Michele who powered home a fierce shot.

Equatorial Guinea could have pinched all three points after 75 minutes had Jade Sayo not wasted a glorious opportunity with only the goalkeeper to beat.

The other match in Group B ended in a 2-1 victory for Ghana over Algeria.
