Former NFF President Sani Lulu is facing a corruption investigation
The Nigeria Sports Commission (NSC) has set up a panel to prevent corruption in the country's sporting bodies.
The move comes as top Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) officials are being questioned about how the $8m budget for the 2010 World Cup was spent.
Former NFF president Sani Lulu and vice-president Amanze Uchegbulam are among those being investigated.
The national anti-graft agency has suspended the financial accounts of the NFF until the investigation is over.
NSC director general Patrick Eleji said that the key task of the new body would be to ensure transparency and accountability in all financial dealings.
"The fight against corruption is the top priority and we plan to work in concert with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission in order to stamp out the malaise in the sporting sector," he said.
"This new committee is also to monitor the activities of the staff of the ministry by ensuring that they are insulated from corrupt practices."
The transparency drive is expected to embrace all of the country's sporting bodies including the Nigeria Premier League and the Nigeria Institute for Sport as well as the NFF.
