Senegal could not overcome Nigeria in the final of the Wafu Cup
Hosts Nigeria have won the 2010 Wafu Cup of Nations after beating a resolute Senegal side 2-0 on Sunday night.
Two second half goals from Rueben Gabriel and Solomon Okpako helped the hosts to victory.
This was the first edition of the West African regional tournament to take place since 2004.
"These boys deserve respect for their achievement, it was not easy to play five games in ten days," Nigeria coach Daniel Amokachi told BBC Sport.
It is the first international tournament of any kind to be won by a senior Nigerian men's team since the Africa Cup of Nations in 1994.
The first half of the final was evenly matched, but the game sprang into life when Gabriel struck seven minutes into the second period.
His headed goal sparked Senegal into life and they created a period of sustained pressure - without result.
Nigeria made sure of the win when skipper Okpako converted the simplest of tap-ins.
The Super Eagles B side who had failed to qualify for the 2011 CHAN tournament celebrated late into the night with their vociferous fans.
"Already five of them have earned a place in the provisional squad of Nigeria for the World Cup, an indication of how far they have come at a short time," Amokachi said.
Ghana finished third after beating Burkina Faso 1-0 in the play-off match.
Opoku Jordan's lone strike for the local Black Stars in the 42nd minute was enough to separate both sides.
