Togo football fans hope that Hubert Velud can lead their team to the World Cup
The Togo Football Federation (TFF) has named Frenchman Hubert Velud as the temporary coach of the country's national football team.
Velud will handle the team for their final two 2010 World Cup qualifiers against Cameroon and Gabon and will be assisted by German Christophe Ebner.
Last week the TFF wrote to former coach Jean Thissen asking him to return to the job after an absence for illness, however he is yet to return to Lome.
The 50-year-old Velud is a former goalkeeper who has worked previously as a coach with clubs in France's lower leagues.
Togo must avoid defeat against Cameroon on 10 October to keep alive their hopes of a second successive World Cup finals appearance.
