Hayatou backs Angola preparations

Work is continuing round the clock at the stadium in Luanda

The President of the Confederation of African Football (Caf) has said preparations for the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations in Angola are "on track".

Issa Hayatou was speaking after a Caf organising committee meeting in Cairo on Wednesday.

Some concerns have been expressed about the ability of the hosts to complete all the necessary developments in time.

Work to finish the stadium in Luanda, which will host the opening game and the final, is going on round the clock.

But Mr Hayatou said the work was on schedule and he praised the Nations Cup organisers for their efforts.

The other three stadiums, in Benguela, Lubango and Cabinda, are further advanced than Luanda.

The tournament will take place between 10 and 31 January.

At the same meeting Caf imposed fines on several Football Federations for what they called "poor organisation" of matches during the combined World and Nations Cup qualifying campaign.

They also said early planning for the Nations Cup in 2012 - which will take place in Equatorial Guinea and Gabon - was proceeding well.
