Salomon Kalou's strike gave Chelsea the first silverware of the new season
The English Premier League gets going next weekend, but football is already underway in earnest across Europe.
Here is the BBC's regular round-up of the African goal-scorers from the weekend.
ENGLAND
Most people will have forgotten who won the Community Shield by the end of the season, but the regular appetiser to the English campaign usually provides some entertainment - as well as a piece of impressive silverware.
And it is Chelsea's African stars and their new manger Carlo Ancelloti who are celebrating after a penalty shoot-out victory over Premier League champions Manchester United.
The game at Wembley Stadium finished 2-2 and went straight to penalties after the 90 minutes.
The winning strike was scored by Ivory Coast's Salomon Kalou.
FRANCE
Champions Bordeaux got off to a flying start in the opening weekend in Ligue 1 by beating Lens 4-1.
Morocco striker Marouane Chamakh - who is still keen on a move to Arsenal - scored the last goal in added time. Tunisian Isam Jomaa scored the consolation for Lens five minutes before half-time.
Senegal defender Abdou Kader Mangane scored his first goal in three seasons when he struck for Rennes, as they beat Boulogne-Sur-Mer 3-0.
Rennes had taken the lead through Guinea striker Ismael Bangoura, who is back in France after two seasons away in Ukraine.
Mali midfielder Mahamane El-Hadji Traore found the back of the net in the first-half as his side won 2-0 away at St Etienne.
His Mali compatriot Modibo Maiga was also on the score sheet after putting Le Mans in the lead in their 2-2 draw with Lyon.
Chinedu Obasi scored for Hoffenheim
Another Malian Mamadou Samassa gave his side Valenciennes a 6th minute lead but they went on to lose 3-1 to visiting Nancy.
And Senegal striker Mamadou Niang scored after just two minutes of play to help Marseille beat Grenoble 2-0.
GERMANY
The Bundesliga kicked-off at the weekend with just two African goals.
The Ivorian Boubacar Sanogo scored for Werder Bremen but they suffered a 3-2 home defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt.
And Nigeria's Chinedu Obasi equalised for Hoffenheim in their 1-1 draw with Bayern Munich.
BELGIUM
Morocco striker Mbark Boussoufa sealed victory for Anderlecht after scoring the winner in their 3-2 victory in the big game against Cercle Bruges - he's already got two goals in this campaign.
Cameroon striker Bertin Tomou has also been on target twice and he scored again this weekend.
He equalised for Westerlo as they drew 1-1 with Kortrijk.
THE NETHERLANDS
Morocco striker Youssef El-Akchaoui was on target as his side NEC Nijmegen dismissed Heerenveen 4-1.
Fellow Moroccan Mounir El-Hamdaoui, last season's top scorer, was also on target for champions AZ Alkmaar who beat Sparta Rotterdam 2-0.
And Ghana defender Francis Dickoh scored the only goal of the game as his side Utrecht edged out Willem II.
TURKEY
The DR Congo striker Shabani Nonda was the only African on target in the Turkish Super Liga.
The Congolese scored what turned out to be the winner for Galatasaray in the 85th minute as his side won 3-2 away at Gaziantepspor.
