Sudan coach exuding confidence

Constantine is backing his side to ruin Ghana's unbeaten record

If Stephen Constantine is feeling the pressure at the helm of Sudan's stuttering 2010 World Cup campaign, he is doing a good job disguising it.

The Sudan coach is backing his team to win Saturday's Group D qualifier against Ghana in Omdurman.

He told BBC Sport that whilst they respect Ghana's quality, they also have complete faith in their ability to knock the Black Stars off their perch.

He said: It'll be a very tough game but we're looking forward to it."

The game sees the unbeaten Black Stars take on a Sudanese side still looking for their first win of the 2010 campaign.

Whilst Ghana have won both their opening matches to lead the group, Sudan have drawn against Mali (1-1) and lost to Benin (1-0).

The form book, therefore, suggests that the home fans should go to the stadium in hope rather than expectation.

Ghana are a side that will punish you for the slightest mistake

However, Constantine told the BBC's African sports programme, Fast Track, on Thursday that if his team plays to its strengths, "we believe we can cause an upset."

He added: "Obviously it's a big game for us here in Sudan, playing against a team like Ghana with all their European stars."

The former Malawi coach admitted his side are underdogs but insisted they have what it takes to topple a Ghanaian side gunning for a second successive appearance at the game's showpiece event.

"We'll have to work very hard to try and close them down. Ghana are a side that will punish you for the slightest mistake so we've got to make sure we don't make any silly mistakes."

Asked how he thought his players would cope with Ghana's midfield powerhouse, Michael Essien, Constantine said: "We'll soon find out".
