Barca hope Eto'o will stay

The president of Spanish champions Barcelona, Joan Laporta, has confirmed the club have had several offers for Cameroon striker Samuel Eto'o.

Club officials later met the player's agent to discuss his future.

The European champions have been linked with a bid for Inter Milan's Zlatan Ibrahimovic, with Eto'o possibly moving the other way as part of the deal.

Eto'o - currently on international duty with Cameroon - scored 30 league goals last season.

After the talks had taken place, Laporta said the club wanted Eto'o to remain at Barcelona.

"We're trying to find a way in which he can stay," he said, following talks between the player's agent, Josep Maria Mesalles, and Barca's director of football Txiki Begiristain.

That was the message from Messalles too.

"The player is not going to be looking to go. He likes it here and there is no better place to live than Barcelona," he said, but added "we're not ruling anything out."

Laporta had previously said that the treble winners are planning to sign three or four top players to strengthen the squad for next season.
