Sfaxien have plenty to do if they are to retain the trophy
Confederation Cup holders CS Sfaxien were soundly beaten by hosts Primeiro Agosto in the first leg of their fourth round Confederation Cup tie on Saturday.
The Tunisians, who have won the last two editions of the tournament, were bitterly disappointed after the 2-0 defeat in Angola.
Sfaxien made a bright start, but Love put Agosto ahead in the 15th minute.
Bena scored the second just after half-time, and Agosto totally dominated the rest of the match, with Sfaxien unable to score an away goal.
The Confederation Cup might be rather lowly for Al Ahly of Egypt, but they seemed to have plenty of enthusiasm for the competition, beating Santos of Angola 3-0 in Cairo.
Mohammed Aboutrika scored once for the six-time African champions, and there were two goals for Ossama Hosni.
Ahmed Belal wasted an early Ahly chance before Aboutrika curled a trademark free kick into the Santos net midway through the opening half.
Asec of Ivory Coast were surprisingly held to a 2-2 draw by Ennpi of Egypt in Abidjan.
Hugues Zagbayou put the home side ahead after ten minutes, but Adel Mostafa equalised for the Egyptian tourists halfway through the first half.
Asec probably thought they were on the way to wrapping up the game when Eugene Kouame scored late in the second half.
Those hopes were dashed however when Ayman Saied who equalised a mere three minutes later.
Last year's Champions League runners-up Coton Sport of Cameroon were 3-1 winners against Vita Club of DR Congo in Garoua.
A last-minute strike gave Stade Malien of Mali a fine chance of getting to the group stage, as they drew 1-1 in Morocco with Al Ittihaad Khemisset.
On Friday, Former African Champions Entente Setif of Algeria came from behind to beat Malian club Djoliba 3-1.
Ousmane Cisse put Djoliba in front in the 26th minute, but Entente Setif scored twice in the following five minutes, through Mourad Delhoum and Abdelmalek Ziaya.
Francis Abmane sealed the victory after the break.
Also on Friday, Al Ahly Tripoli of Libya drew 0-0 with Egypt's Haras El Hadood.
In Kampala, KCC beat Nigeria's Bayelsa United 3-1.
The Ugandan side, who were knocked out of the Champions League by Sudanese side Al Merreikh, took the lead after just four minutes through Bryan Omony.
That lead was doubled ten minutes into the second half thanks to a header from Moses Muhindo and Omony added a third just nine minutes later.
The Nigerian league leaders grabbed a valuable away goal in the 67th minute through Aruwa Ameh.
On Sunday, Asec Mimosas of Ivory Coast host Egypt's Enppi.
The second legs are scheduled for the end of May with the eventual winner progressing to the group stages of the tournament.
