Rwanda and Tanzania have boosted their chances of appearing in the knock-out stages of the Cecafa Challenge Cup in Uganda on Monday.
Tanzania's Taifa Stars went into their game against Zanzibar needing a win to have any hopes of progressing in this 10-team tournament.
They duly responded and snatched a 2-1 win over their neighbours at Kampala's Nakivubo Stadium, thanks to goals from Danny Mrwanda and Athumani Idd.
Nadir 'Carnavaro' Haroub got was on the scoresheet for Zanzibar in a match in which both sides wasted numerous scoring opportunities.
Tanzania's Brazilian coach Marcio Maximo said he was happy with the win, adding that his side grabbed victory after taking heed of his half-time team talk.
"Our next matches against Rwanda and Uganda should be more open and hopefully we can get some good results,� he said.
Zanzibar coach Badr-el Din refused to talk to the Press after the match, claiming that his team had been robbed of victory.
For their part, Rwanda went into into the match against Somalia smarting from their 4-0 defeat to Uganda in their tournament's opening match but romped to a 3-0 win.
Eric Gesana scored twice before Kamana Bokota added a third.
