Zanzibar wrapped up victory in their opening match at the Cecafa Cup

Uganda stormed to the top of Group A on day two of the Cecafa Cup with a 4-0 victory over last year's runners-up Rwanda.

Rwanda managed to shut out Uganda in the first half, despite wave upon wave of attacks by the Cranes.

In the second half, there was no holding back as midfielder Tony Mawejje started the goal feast by scoring from a free kick.

Defender Simeon Massa joined him on the scoreboard after he converted a penalty to give Uganda a 2-0 lead.

2008 Ugandan Footballer of the year Bryan Omwony scored with a header for the Cranes' third and a brilliant solo run from striker Stephen Bengo wrapped up the match.

Ugandan football expert Mark Ssali told BBC Sport that this performance by the Cranes was just what the tournament needed.

"It's a real boost to the tournament organisers because when the host nation starts like this, then the tournament is going to get interest from the public," he said.

Zanzibar won the other game in Group A, defeating Somalia 2-0.

Somalia's frontmen Yusuf Ali and Sidi Abdul started the game with a series of eye-catching attacks, but they were unable to translate that into goals.

Defender Aggrey Morris put Zanzibar 1-0 up halfway through the first half with a long range effort.

Zanzibar were awarded a penalty in the dying minutes of the game after a foul on Omar Juma.

It was left to Morris, who plies his trade for Mafunzo in the Zanzibar league, to wrap up victory for the 1995 champions with the resulting penalty conversion just one minute from time.

On Friday, Djibouti play Burundi, while Kenya take on Zambia in a clash involving two teams who are using the tournament as a warm-up for the final round of World Cup and Africa Cup of nations qualifiers.
