Niang facing six week layoff

Marseille striker Mamadou Niang
Niang fractured his toe against Nice

Senegal and Marseille striker Mamadou Niang will be out for up to six weeks after fracturing a right toe in Saturday's 2-1 home win over Nice.

Niang scored his sixth league goal of the season from the penalty spot.

In the second half, Niang tried a spectacular scissors kick in the second half and his foot hit the head of Nice defender Cedric Cante, who was unhurt.

The club doctor said the break looks clean and that the Senegal forward does not require surgery.

"It will heal in four to six weeks, it depends on the nature of it," Christophe Baudot told Marseille's website.

"We will try to ensure it heals quickly."

Marseille moved within three points of French leaders Lyon afer their win at the Stade Velodrome.
