Mido is being urged to stay and fight by his manager
Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate says he wants Egyptian striker Mido to stay and fight for his place at the club.
The Pharoahs star has been linked with a loan move to Wigan, after starting the first two games of the season on the bench.
But he came on to score in both matches, and got his third of the campaign in the 5-1 League Cup thrashing of Yeovil on Tuesday.
"I think the reason he joined us is because he believes in what we are trying to do here and I do think he can still play a big part in that," Southgate said.
"He is a talent and you want all of your players to fulfil the talent they have and I think he can do that for us.
"I have said to him I want him to be part of this football club.
"At the start of the season it was easy because he hadn't had pre-season matches but now he is getting up to full fitness and scoring goals; that gives me a problem."
Southgate added that he wants Mido to have a more settled period in his career, after spells at Ajax, Marseille, Roma and Tottenham Hotspur.
"He knows how I feel about him and what I want from him," he said.
"His attitude to not starting has been first class.
"He has had a big impact from the bench and I think he is pushing hard to get in that starting line-up."
