Madagascar were saved by a last-gasp penalty in their Group 7 2010 World Cup qualifying game against Mozambique on Sunday.

Dario Monteiro put the visiting Mambas ahead on 33 minutes and it seemed the lone goal would be enough for victory.

But Guy Mamihasindrahona hit back from the spot in the dying minutes to earn a share of the spoils and keep his side third after three games with three points.

The decision to award a penalty sparked furious protests from the Mozambique players and the game was delayed for 10 minutes before the melee ended.

Botswana stay top of the group on goal difference after a 1-1 draw with second -placed Ivory Coast on Saturday.

Dipsy Selolwane put the Zebras in front in Gabarone on 25 minutes, in the their first game since the dismissal of coach Colwyn Rowe.

Ivory Coast, again playing without captain Didier Drogba, had to wait until the 64th minute before Kanga Akale equalised.

It is the second draw of their campaign so far, and leaves Ivory Coast with five points from three games.

Mozambique remain bottom with one point from three games.
