Nigeria to play Ghana in CHAN

Ghana coach Claude LeRoy
Ghana's game with Togo was the last in charge for Claude LeRoy

Nigeria beat Burkina Faso 2-1 in Ouagadougou to complete a 4-1 aggregate win and set up a clash with arch-rivals Ghana to decide who qualifies for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) finals.

Also through to the final round of games are Cameroon, Zimbabwe, Sudan, Tanzania, DR Congo, Angola, Zambia and Morocco after the second leg games over the weekend.

CHAN is the tournament for locally-based players only and the seven winners from the regional qualifiers will advance to the final in the Ivory Coast in 2009.

Burkina Faso took the lead against Nigeria in their West B Zone game in the 25th minute on Sunday with a goal from Issaka Ouedraogo.

But Nigeria fought back with goals five minutes after half time from Ugu Okpara and then one in the final minute of the match by David Tyankase.

On Saturday, in Claude LeRoy's last game in charge, Ghana had reached the final round of the West B Zone with a 4-2 aggregate win over Togo.

The two sides battled out a 2-2 draw in Accra on Saturday, in what was Togo's home leg, which they chose to play in Ghana because of a ban by Fifa on games in Lome after violence at an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier last year.

Ghana opened the scoring on 18 minutes through John Boye before an equaliser from Alonouvo Backer two minutes before half time.

Eric Bekoe restored the lead for Ghana in the 51st minute and then Backer grabbed his second of the game with seven minutes remaining to make the final score 2-2.

Elsewhere, Senegal beat Mali 5-4 on penalties to set up a meeting with Guinea in the next round.

Guinea drew 1-1 at home to Mauritania, meaning they qualify on away goals courtesy of the opening 2-2 draw in Mauritania.

Sudan will face Tanzania in the final round of qualifiers for the Central East Zone.

The Sudanese advanced with a 5-1 aggregate win over Rwanda after they 1-1 draw on Saturday.

Hosts Rwanda took the lead after just one minute thanks to an own goal from Jean Claude Nbori before Sudan equalised through Elias Ntanganda in the 34th minute.

Tanzania were also held to a 1-1 draw in Kampala by Uganda but the visitors won 3-1 on aggregate.

Geoffrey Serunkuuma gave Uganda some hope when he headed home in the 8th minute but Athuman Iddy hit back for Tanzania on the stroke of half time.

Morocco eventually edged out Algeria 3-1 on penalties to book their place in the final of the North Zone.

The two sides drew 1-1 on Saturday to make the score 2-2 on aggregate to force the shoot out.

Mohamed Madihi gave Morocco the lead on 29 minutes and then with just eight minutes remaining Algeria got an equaliser through Nassim Dahouch.

In the final two-leg qualifier Morocco will play Libya, who were given a bye in the last round following the withdrawal of Egypt from the tournament.

In the Central Zone Cameroon won 2-0 in Gabon to complete a 3-2 victory.

Cameroon will now play DR Congo, who despite losing 2-1 to neighbours Congo, secured a 4-2 aggregate win.

Zimbabwe beat hosts Namibia 1-0 on the day and on aggregate to advance to the final round in the South Zone, where they will play South Africa.

Zambia are also through to the final round in the South Zone they beat Botswana 3-0 in Lusaka on Saturday to complete 3-1 aggregate victory.

Goals from Roger Kola, Emmanuel Mayuka and Rainford Kalaba gave Zambia the comfortable win.

Zambia's opponents in the other game in the final round in the South Zone will be Angola, who beat Mozambique 1-0 to make it 2-1 on aggregate.
