Keshi is rated as one of Africa's finest coaches |
Stephen Keshi's appointment as the new national team coach of Mali has been put on hold as the country's government rejects his wage demands. Boubacar Traore, a spokesman for the Mali Football Federation, says they will try to re-negotiate with Keshi.
Traore says the Nigerian had been asking for approximately US$28,000 a month for the two-year contract.
Keshi told BBC Sport he is yet to officially hear the news and therefore could not comment at the moment.
The former Togo coach was due to replace Frenchman Jean-Francois Jodar, who was sacked last week.
Keshi had been amongst the favourites to take over as the coach of his native Nigeria.
The Nigeria Football Association held interviews last month in Abuja for a new coach, but delayed the appointment of a full-time coach.
