Minister dissolves Malagasy FA

Madagascar's government is on a collision course with Fifa following the dissolution of the country's football association.

Sports Minister Patrick Ramiaramanana has sacked the entire management committee of the Malagasy FA.

The catalyst for this development was the last-minute cancellation of a Champions League match last week.

Fans clashed with police last Sunday after the cancellation of Ajesaia's tie against Costa do Sol of Mozambique.

Following an investigation into the incident - caused by the non-arrival of one match official - the government blames the Malagasy FA and announced fresh elections in three months.

"Since they knew that the referee from Comoros was not coming, why did they not take the decision to get another referee?", Ramiaramanana fumed.

He went on: "The federation is responsible for what happened and we have the right to dissolve the management committee which falls under our jurisdiction.

"We have applied the law which allows for the dissolution of a sports federation by the Sports Minister."

But the move is unlikely to go down well with Fifa as the world governing body does not tolerate government interference in football matters.

There has been no comment from the Malagasy FA.
