Eto'o tucks away his second and Cameroon's third against Sudan |
Cameroon's German coach Otto Pfister paid tribute to Samuel Eto'o after the striker became the leading goalscorer in Africa Cup of Nations history. The 26-year-old recorded his 15th and 16th Nations Cup goals in the Indomitable Lions' 3-0 win over Sudan.
"He is the best scorer in African history," said Pfister.
When asked if Eto'o could be classed as an African great, the German replied: "He passed this level a long time, he's one of the best strikers in the world."
Eto'o's brace, the first of which saw him surpass former Ivory Coast striker Laurent Pokou, and an own goal by Mohamed Ali Khidir ensured Cameroon qualified as runners-up in Group C behind Egypt.
The Barcelona forward's broke Pokou's record, which had stood since 1970, from the penalty spot after Achille Emana was felled by Yousef Alaeldin in the 28th minute.

Eto'o sealed the win when he converted Joel Epalle's long ball with a neat finish shortly before full-time.
Cameroon now will face the winners of Group D, which will be decided on Thursday, in Tamale on Monday.
"Of course I am happy," said Pfister. "We qualified. It wasn't very spectacular, but now we will prepare for our quarter-final.
"We've been very efficient and scored 10 goals in the group stage, I don't know many teams who have done that.
"We totally dominated the first half and, although we didn't put on a great show, I'm happy we've qualified.
"We were confronted by a team which had nothing to lose. They fought well. We had a total domination but our domination was sterile."
