The Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) are hoping coach Uli Stielike will sign a new deal to lead the Elephants' 2010 World Cup qualifying campaign. The German coach left his post to care for his ill son Michael and was replaced by Frenchman Gerard Gili for the Africa Cup of Nations.
But FIF chief Heguard Ouattara said: "We want to enter into negotiations with him after the tournament.
"We want him to take charge during the 2010 World Cup qualifiers."
Stielike's contract was due to expire after the competition in Ghana, which begins on Sunday.

Both Stielike and FIF had hoped that he would be back to coach the side later on in the tournament, but both have now ruled out that possibility.
Former Real Madrid midfielder Stielike had spent 14 months in charge and had guided the Elephants to seven wins in 11 matches.
They begin their World Cup qualifiers at home to Mozambique in June.
