 Barakat will travel to Germany for surgery on his troublesome knee |
Egypt midfielder Mohamed Barakat has been ruled out of this month's African Nations Cup finals. Barakat, who helped Egypt to win the tournament two years,has struggled with a knee injury for the past few months.
He will travel to Germany for an operation, his club Al Ahly of Cairo announced on Friday.
Egypt are still hoping that striker Ahmed 'Mido' Hossam will recover from a groin injury in time for the start of the tournament on 20 January.
Already sidelined from the three-week tournament are Ghana captain Stephen Appiah and key Morocco midfielder Mbark Boussoufa.
The Ivory Coast striker Didier Drogba is doubtful after knee surgery last month.
