Isaac Chansa says Zambia can reach the Nations Cup semi-finals |
Zambia midfielder Isaac Chansa says his team can make it to the semi-finals of next month's African Cup of Nations in Ghana. Chansa, who plays for Swedish club Helsingborgs, is optimistic of the Chipolopolo's chances despite being in a tough looking Group C alongside Cameroon, Sudan and reigning champions Egypt.
"We have the chance of qualifying for the second round and even playing in the semi-finals," Chansa told BBC Sport.
"I see myself there because we are going in as underdogs and might surprise the other teams.
"It's obvious from the way the coaches, the officials and the players are preparing and the mood in the camp that we will go far.
"I base my confidence in the players because I have trained with the team and I see us going far because of the effort the guys are putting in during training.
"When it comes to the games even if we are playing the defending champions [Egypt] or Cameroon, the biggest team in Africa, I think we will be able to do it."
Chansa and the rest of Zambia's preliminary squad are training in Spain ahead of the tournament and will travel to play Tunisia at Rades on 6 January and they then take on Morocco six days later.
