Enough is enough
Sol Campbell
Sol Campbell was targetted after his move from Spurs to Arsenal
Former Arsenal defender Sol Campbell has called for action to stop the abuse of top footballers by crowds.

The Portsmouth star was speaking after Arsenal fans subjected his former colleague Ashley Cole to a stream of invective when Chelsea visited recently.

Cole's protracted departure from Arsenal left a bitter legacy for the fans, who duly took the opportunity to vent their anger.

Campbell himself has been the subject of similar abuse, because of his transfer from Tottenham to their north London rivals Arsenal.

We want to know what you think.

Should action be taken?

Or should players accept that abuse from fans is part of the game?

And is it a European phenomenon or do players get abused across the world?

How much right do fans have to express their feelings, however unpleasant?

Action should be taken against fans who abuse players. Players should not accept abuse as part of the game at anytime. I also think appropriate action should be taken against any club whose fans do abuse players.
King Henry, Nigeria

I agree to with what Cambell says. It's time to stop the abuse. This players deserve RESPECT, for God's sake!
Onwe Daniel Garba

Sol is a big boy and he should take it on the chin like a man. I wouldn't mind getting verbal abuse for 90 minutes a week and earning 50 thousand dollars. Wake up, Sol, you've had an easy life, so get on with it. It's part and parcel of the game.
Matt, UK

Players should accept abuse from fans when they perform poorly but not for transfers or any other reason.
Keaf Dolley, UK

Fans have a right to heckle a player, coach or referee but not if they are racially motivated.
Yonmah Garwo, US How can you stop it among the fans? Players should just accept that abuse from fans is part and parcel of the game.
Sodiq, Spain

I think action should be taken against anyone who is abusive towards players in any sport. Players should change clubs any time they feel like it and if the fans are not happy about it, then tough. This a free world; everyone can do whatever they want and go wherever they want.
Jimmy Merchant, US

Honestly, abuse is abuse. I do not believe any action should be taken. I do not think it's malicious on the part of the fans. Fans will always be fans, we boo our players if they under-perform. It is not RACISM.
Paul, Nigeria

Abusing players should not be allowed as it kills their morale. The one thing the fans should be allowed to do though is boo the players. Booing is not abuse.
Hassan Said Jama, US Why is he complaining? It has always happened for years. He gets a lot of money, so he should not complain.
David, London
